  • Run it at the night and check the log in the day:

  • The backup is taken automatically in the night. All you have to do is check the log and errors, the next day. Make sure you do that every day.

  • Do not overwrite it always:

  • It is always advisable to keep back up information for a few days. Instead of overwriting, you must keep rotating your media. For example: if you are using tapes, use at least four, so that you can use a different one for a few days and then repeat the cycle and keep one for the last day of the month.

  • Take it to your home:

  • In this unpredictable world, you never know when there can be an earthquake or any other natural disaster. So, it is always a good idea to take your data to home with you, so that your business data remains safe with you.

  • Test it once a month:

  • Many people think that they are taking the back up, but they have been taking it in the wrong folder or in some days, they find that it is not working any more. This can be a major problem! One solution to this problem is restoring your last back up to some other location on the hard drive. Also, make sure that you are restoring correct files. It is advisable to do it extremely carefully. Make sure you are not overwriting the data folder of your POS software.
